A ‘publication’ is a book, zine, or journal designed for public use. In the art world, a publication is often produced alongside an exhibition or collections of work as a companion piece to document the findings and thought processes of the artist.
We invite you to explore, to notice, observe, draw, research, collaborate and document the areas of Bretton and Millfield, showcasing them in a new light.
16 March 2019
10am - 2pm
The Allama Iqbal Centre, Cromwell Road
Guided by artist Matthew Booker, working together throughout the design process, we will translate our research collected in workshops 1 and 2 into a designed publication. We will ask ourselves: what do we want to include/ say about the area and how can the design process help to do this?
As a group we will consider all elements of the publication: thinking about type, layout printing and the publishing process, as well as how to translate our findings into written content.
Each session will end with a group discussion about what we have produced.
The workshops are open to anyone aged 12 and over. Please note that as there is an independent element to these workshops, under 18s must be accompanied by an adult.
Whilst this project is focusing on Bretton, we welcome participants from across the city, whether you have knowledge of the area or not!
This workshop is part of a series titled ‘Under the Surface’ and the aim is to create a special publication for the area made by local people. The publication will be launched in 2019 along with an exhibition of the work created at a special event in Bretton, celebrating all of the work made.
Participants are encouraged to attend all three sessions, however you are welcome to pop along to just one of the three workshops if you cannot commit to all three.
